The Machine are our Kin too

What if technology could break down?

rot, change color, go back to soil

(The world we imagined does not look like a shiny, futuristic city.)

It is damp, full of plants, insects, compost, and glowing materials.

Technology is physical and active.

It is something you touch, feel, and move through.

Designing this kind of world raised difficult questions:
Not all harm disappears when old systems collapse, and not all land becomes free just because money is gone.

What if buildings could shed old parts instead of staying permanent?

What if progress was based on paying attention, instead of control?

In this future, technology does not separate itself from nature. It works with it. We looked at how living systems communicate, and imitate these patterns into our technology and architecture.

  • mycelium networks for communicating information
  • roots that support slow building
  • microbes that create light
  • cellulose for strength
  • fibers that respond to humidity

These systems do not stop decay or growth.
